Okay, the secret’s out… I’m actually obsessed with growing cut flower garden plants. So much so that I’ve already started gathering seeds and planning out next season’s cut flower garden. And, because I love seeing what others are growing, I thought it would be fun to share my plans for next year’s garden with you!
I’m talking about growing:
- Zinnias
- Dahlias
- Cosmos
- Celosia
- Asters
- Sunflowers
- Yarrow
I’m counting down the days until these cut flower garden plants bloom in my garden, and I can’t wait to see the vibrant colors come to life!
But before we dive into exactly what I’m growing in my cut flower garden…who is Sid anyway?
Hey there! I’m Sid, juggling life as a mom of three little ones (all three and under!) and wife to the best guy I met on Hinge. “At Home with the Sikorski’s” is where I share our tips, tricks, and stories about making home life awesome—from motherhood and homeschooling to DIY projects and keeping our marriage strong. Let’s create a life we love together!

The Cut Flower Garden Plants I’m Growing This Season:
Zinnias
Zinnias are the cut flower garden plants that started it all for me! I initially grew them to attract pollinators to my veggie garden, but quickly fell in love with their vibrant blooms. This season, I’m expanding my zinnia varieties and can’t wait to see them in full bloom. Here’s what I’m planting:
Pastel Mix
I got this pastel mix from zinniaseeds.com as a part of their fundraiser, and the colors are so dreamy! I plan to hand-pollinate these to save seeds and see what I can grow next season.
California Giants
These were the first zinnias I ever grew, and I’m still obsessed with them! I’ll be planting both saved seeds from last season and some new ones. My plan is to create a large row of California Giants along the side of my house, away from the varieties I want to experiment with for crossbreeding.
Oklahoma Mix
I’m beyond excited to grow these stunning zinnias! I’ll mix a few with the California Giants and see if I can breed some gorgeous pastel varieties. Their double blooms and soft colors are perfect for adding depth to my cut flower garden plants.
Queen Lime Mix
I’ve never grown anything from the Queeny series, so I’m looking forward to seeing how these turn out! The color combinations are absolutely striking, and I’m hoping they’ll be a standout in my garden.
Dahlias
This is my first real year growing dahlias! Last year, I accidentally grew one without knowing how to care for it, but after tons of research, I’m ready to give dahlias the attention they deserve. I’m also hoping to save enough seeds for a full dahlia row in my cut flower garden.
Sweet Sanne
The color on these is absolutely breathtaking—think peachy-pink petals with a lilac center. I can’t wait to see them in bloom!
90 Days of Dahlias – Grower’s Choice
This mix from Eden Brothers is a bit of a surprise bag, but I’m excited to see what varieties I get and hopefully have blooms all season long!
Sweet Nathalie
I’m SO excited to grow these stunning blush-colored blooms. Sweet Nathalie has such a soft, romantic vibe—perfect for adding to my bouquet arrangements.
Nicholas
These dahlias literally stopped me in my tracks when I saw them online! With peachy, orange, and red hues, they’ll bring the perfect autumn touch to my garden.
Floret Can Can Girls
This is a seed that was shared with me from someone in a flower FB group I’m a part of, and I can’t wait to see what I get out of these seeds! Unfortunately, Floret isn’t selling seeds right now.
Cosmos
I’ve never grown cosmos before, but their delicate, wispy appearance is sure to add a whimsical touch to my garden. I’m growing Cupcake Blush Cosmos, which I think will be stunning in mixed bouquets as it’s typically a favorite cut flower garden plant!
Celosia
Okay, I might be biting off more than I can chew with celosia (still a total newb here) but I couldn’t resist. I’m growing Spun Sugar from Floret, which I got from a generous Facebook group member, as well as a pastel mix. Celosia’s texture is so unique, and I can’t wait to see them thrive.
Asters
While I dream of growing peonies one day, Peony Duchess Asters are a great substitute for now! Their lush, full blooms are just what I need to bring some charm and elegance to my cut flower garden plants.
Sunflowers
No cut flower garden is complete without sunflowers! I’m growing a mixed variety along the side of my house in a big row. Some of the varieties I’m most excited about include:
- Autumn Beauty
- Crimson
- Chocolate
- Evening
- Moulin Rouge
- Red Sun
- Sungold
- Mammoth
Yarrow
I’m growing Colorado Mix Yarrow this year, and I’m excited to use it as a filler for my arrangements. Bonus: it’s a perennial, so it’ll come back year after year—yay for low-maintenance cut flower garden plants!
Wrapping Up: What’s Next for My Cut Flower Garden Plants?
